Raku Figure
2021
A Raku Figure created by Catherine Ogden.
Raku is traditionally a type of Japanese pottery, which has been adopted and modulated by potters and ceramicists across the globe. The process in Australia typically includes wares being fired at high temperatures in a kiln and removed quickly to be placed into an open-air container that is filled with combustible materials. This gives the ware a variety of colours and creates a range of effects and textures, seen on the surface of the Raku Figures.
Catherine works across a variety of mediums including drawing and painting but mostly she makes ceramics. Her work consists of sculpture and domestic ware. She is inspired by the environment, figurative art, glaze making and learning new processes. She lives in Kelso, Townsville.
