Sheree Kinlyside's art practice has, since gaining a BA (visual arts/printmaking) at James Cook University in 2000, continued in her home studios on the outskirts of Townsville. In 2006 she began to print and produce artists books and prints under the banner of Red Rag Press, a multifunctional workspace that supports the voice and vision of women artists. In 2019 Kinlyside’s practice began to focus on self-directed study of the properties of colour and colour relationships. As a result of this, her current practice involves colour relief printmaking and monotypes with the addition of stitch and textiles as well as design work for 3D mixed media works in collaboration with her partner Alan Carpenter. Kinlyside believes that connecting with other artists is an intrinsic part of art production. Thus, she has participated in group exhibitions, projects and residencies in Australia and the UK as well as several book arts and print shows in the US, UK and Ireland. Kinlyside’s work has been purchased by SLQ, SLV, Mitchel library Sydney, Art Gallery of NSW, Australian National Library, Perc Tucker Regional Gallery, Mackay Artspace, Cork Printmakers and private collectors in NZ, the US and UK.

Alan Carpenter has been involved with creative projects since childhood. His early career as a drafter, then project leader, gave vast opportunities to become familiar with the properties of wood, metal and concrete and the machinations of construction. As a young adult, his love of wood in particular and its ability to become other “things” gave rise to the habit of collecting wood, metals and other materials as well as tools. When time permitted, always with a sustainability ethic, came the design and making of bespoke furniture, Hebel sculptures, and among many other larger projects, the making of doors and gateways using Japanese joinery techniques. This has resulted in the mastery of skills across a range of media. Carpenter shares his love of reclaimed materials with his partner Sheree Kinlyside. Both take pleasure in the inner workings of pre-digital machines such as cash registers, pianos, obscure printing presses etc which they repurpose and use in their work. Now retired from his industry career, Carpenter was, in the latter stages, involved with the public art selection process which allowed a window into artists thinking… possibly not far removed from his own creative methods. All of this has been a major contributor to now. “It is possible that all of my life I have been working towards this creative self."
