Paint pen, paper and card on colourfix paper, 2021, 29.5 x 90.5cm
Danish Quapoor (Townsville, QLD) obfuscates explorations of identity, sexuality, religion and relationships beneath wordplay and a distinctive, stylised, flat-colour style. Quapoor’s illustrative paintings and sculptures often present iconographic forms that float in sparse arrangements as anthropomorphised still lifes. The artist's ceramic pendants extend this practice into the wearable art realm.
Quapoor has exhibited nationally, collaborated internationally, illustrated 15 collections of African Children’s Stories (Dūcere Foundation) and completed numerous murals, commissions, studio residencies and live-drawing events. He has works held in the Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery collection and private collections in Australia, USA and Germany.
